Lanché van Tonder

Head of Facilities and Operations Officer

Lanché van Tonder is a dedicated Higher Education leader with more than a decade of experience in student housing and campus life. Since April 2015, he has served as Head of Residence Management & Student Life at the University of Pretoria, where he oversees residence management and student life programs across 29 residences and supports the academic success and personal development of over 8 000 students.

On the international stage, Lanché has held the role of ACUHO-I Globalization Director (2023 to 2025), advising campus-housing professionals worldwide on strategic initiatives and best practices. He also served as Head of Facilities & Operations for ACUHO-I’s Southern Africa Chapter (SAC), guiding facility design, sustainability planning, and risk management from 2021 to 2024, and currently serves as the Staff Development Executive Board member of ACUHO-I SAC. As co-director of the Roelf Visser Student Housing Training Institute (2022 to present), he designs curriculum and mentors emerging professionals across Southern Africa.

Lanché holds an LLB degree (2011) and an MPhil in Leadership (2024) from the University of Pretoria and is currently pursuing a PhD in Leadership. His scholarly work examines the intersection of institutional governance and student well-being, and he also supervises graduate research projects. Combining legal expertise, strategic vision, and operational rigor, Lanché is committed to promoting collaborative communities, advancing professional standards, and enhancing the student experience both locally and internationally.
